We’re wrapping up our sailing season in Sweden and prepare for Bushpoint to stay on land for the next 7 months. In this episode, we head to Sundbyholm marina, take down the sails, clean and fold them, and Fredrik climbs the mast to fix a few things. Then we head over to Västerås for a smooth and drama-free haul-out. Next season is coming soon! We’re still sailing with friends on s/y Willow, another trusty Boreal, and making our way to lay up Bushpoint for the winter. Yes, we’re a bit behind on YouTube, so for the latest updates, follow us on Instagram @bushpointsailing. In this episode, we leave the charming seaside town of Trosa and begin the transition from saltwater to the sweet waters of Lake Mälaren, where our boat will spend the winter. This episode is full of sailing in different condition, one day it’s relaxed sailing—so relaxed we even clean underway! And we pool out the genoa for some more speed. As we approach the Södertälje Canal, we share the water with massive container ships and we send up the drone for some fine shots. In the canal we pass through locks, and under bridges and of course we send up the drone for better view of the canal and of the lock which is the biggest in the Nordic countries. Later on Lake Mälaren, we get wind gusting to 36 knots—perfect for some good sailing! At one point, we wait for a bridge to open (Hjulstabron), and we get lucky to have a container ship come through just as we’re allowed to pass. 🚁 As always, we’ve got drone footage, honest onboard life, and our usual dose of low-key humor. We’re back on the water for another Autumn sailing adventure in Sweden, and this one starts like a postcard — sunshine, t-shirts, and a gentle breeze perfect for flying our Furlstrom sail. We're cruising through the Stockholm archipelago alongside our Aussie friends aboard Willow — two Boréal expedition sailboats gliding together through the calm Baltic Sea. But it doesn’t stay calm for long. The wind shifts, the temperature drops, and we swap t-shirts for foul weather gear. We anchor for the night in shallow waters, with just 2 meters under the keel — and the next morning, we squeeze out with only 1.3 meters of depth. On our way into Trosa, a charming seaside town south of Stockholm, we hit another 1.3-meter patch in the narrow, shallow entrance channel. But no stress — we stay cool, even joking that we need some drama. Fredrik suggests Jeanette jump overboard... for the algorithm, of course. (She doesn’t.) 🎬 Spot the movie quote in this episode? New Episode! Two Boréals and One Sauna
We’re back on the boat, it feels great! — and this time we’ve got company! Our Aussie friends aboard Willow II, a gorgeous Boreal 44, join us for a relaxed and scenic sailing through the Stockholm Archipelago. We visit a quiet Sandhamn (way calmer than the summer chaos!), raise our Furlstrom sail with the Bushpoint logo, and swing by a remote hut, on an island called Bullerö, once used by Bruno Liljefors (1860–1939), one of Sweden’s most iconic wildlife painters. On Bullerö we also introduce our Aussie friends to the joys of a sauna! We scored the sauna 10/10. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Bushpoint episode without drone shots!
